SapienzaTerahertz (SBAI) Project has been funded by Grandi Attrezzature Scientifiche di interesse di Ateneo – Grandi Attrezzature (Sapienza, University of Rome). The project aimed to create an interdepartmental facility and it involved 16 Departments with 67 participants and more than 8 thematic areas.

The Laboratory has been first established in 2018 under the project “SapienzaTerahertz: THz spectroscopic image system for basic and applied sciences” funded by Sapienza (University of Rome), Grandi Attrezzature Scientifiche di Interesse di Ateneo-Grandi Attrezzature.

The SapienzaTerahertz project aims at the realization of an advanced  THz spectroscopic and imaging infrastructure unique in the national panorama dedicated to R&D activity at THz frequencies for basic and applied sciences.

The laboratory apparatus is based both on the new quantum cascade technology that generates the THz highest average power and an extremely high sensitivity 2D detector based on a matrix of microbolometer working at room temperature.
